As part of my Holiday Vox Box, I got to try Quaker Real Medleys. I was sent the Apple Walnut flavor.
I love oatmeal period so I was very excited to try this. There were two options for preparing the oatmeal: (1) Pour boiling water into the cup and letting it sit for three minutes or (2) add hot water up to the dark line and microwave this for 45 seconds. Then, it stand for one minute.
I microwaved the oatmeal. I used milk instead of water. This is a preference for me when I’m making any kind of oatmeal. It didn’t list this as an option in directions but I did it anyways and it worked out just fine. I did end up microwaving it for an additional 30 seconds because it wasn’t as hot as I prefer with 45. This was probably due to me using refrigerated milk instead of tap water.
I was pleasantly surprised by the taste! It was really good and I’m not a big fan of walnuts or cranberries in the first place! The consistency was really creamy, not too watery, not too thick. The apples pieces were still a little crunchy, not too mushy like I expected them to be. I’ve tried a lot of oatmeal and this is one of my new favorites!
I also really like the convenient size and packaging. I can throw this in the microwave right before I run out the door and eat it on my drive to work. (No not while I’m driving, while I’m sitting at every single stoplight on the two mile stretch from my house to the interstate that I get stopped at every single morning.) Nutritionally, while not the greatest in the sugars department, there is quite a bit of protein in such a little cup (6 grams) so this definitely kept me feeling full until lunch time.
There are 3 other flavors and I intend to try them all. At almost $2.00 each though, I think I’ll wait until they are on sale 🙂
